  • Update from Headteacher

    Wed 15 Apr 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers

I know many people have either had COVID19, suspect that they have had COVID19, or know somebody who has been seriously affected by this disease. I trust you are all as well as you can be. I know that many individuals and families have been under a lot of strain and pressure in these unprecedented times.

As you will be aware from government announcements schools remain closed. However, we are open to children of key workers who have no other option but to send their children to school. We were pleased that at the end of last term that list remained minimal to ensure that as few staff as possible were needed to be in the school building. We will be open tomorrow (17/4/20) in this same limited capacity. We are expecting further advice and guidance from the Department of Education and the government later this week.

Teachers will be in contact again tomorrow to ensure your child has appropriate learning activities to complete at home. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s work and learning please contact the class or form tutor first, or the teacher who sat the work in secondary.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s school attendance at school please contact Mr Ralph. If you got any concerns regarding your child’s wellbeing please contact Mr Deslandes.

    Kind Regards

    Les Milton

  • New Year 7 Intake September 2020

    Fri 03 Apr 2020

I just wanted to write to you as I’m sure you have a large number of questions during this time of uncertainty. Our aim will be to try and reduce some of your anxieties about joining our school and the arrangements moving forward.

None of us at present are clear on what will be happening in the coming weeks but rest assured we are constantly reviewing how we react to changing circumstances. The school website is an excellent place to look for updates.

After Easter we hope we will have some idea on our direction of travel and we will set up some communication with you to enable you to ask any questions that you may have. Our aim will be to ensure that your child and yourselves are at least feeling part of our community.

In conclusion, please do not worry about joining our school as we will do everything we can to make the transition as smooth and as simple as possible. Returning to school will be a new experience for all of us given the enforced break so we will all be in the same boat! Most importantly, I would like to reiterate that you have our support as a school, that we now see you as a part of our community.

Please go to the School Letters tab to download a copy of the options letter to be filled out and sent back to Mr Ralph.

Below is a copy of the letter:

    March, 2020

    Dear Parent/Guardian,

    Key Stage 4 Options 2020/21

I know that we are facing an uncertain future, considering what is going on in the world. We do not know exactly when we will be reopening as a school, but we must continue to look forward and plan.

You recently received our Options booklet for Year 9 pupils, and we asked you to think about these options and talk about them with your child. Following discussions with pupils, and feedback from parents, we are now in a position to be able to put each of the options into four blocks, as shown below:

As we do not know when the school will be fully open again, I am asking that you choose your options with your child and return by email to me at danny.ralph@laleham-gap.kent.sch.uk in the format:

    Child’s name

    Block 1

    Block 2

    Block 3

    Block 4

Please choose one option from each block. Please also note that your child cannot choose the same subject in two blocks.

As you can see, Challenger Troop takes place across two option blocks. If your child would like to choose Challenger Troop in Block 1, please leave the box blank for block 2. Pupils choosing this will work towards three different qualifications over the two years.

Please be aware that there are limits to numbers of pupils that we can accommodate in each group. If this affects the choices that your child has made, we will be in touch to discuss further options.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email.

Best wishes and I hope you are safe and well,

    Danny Ralph

  • Updated Letter in Relation to Free School Meals

    Fri 27 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents / Carers

We have been made aware that some parents in the County have been approached via text and/or e-mail in relation to Free School Meal arrangements in light of Covid-19 (Coronavirus).

We understand parents have been asked to provide their bank details and personal information about children who are eligible, including names and dates of birth, with a promise that money will be sent to them directly.

    This information is not accurate.

Further information will be available from government later in the week which will confirm it is the school who will be managing the voucher system in consultation with a government’s identified provider. Therefore, please do not respond to any messages you receive unless they come directly from the school.

Can we also take this time to remind you to be aware of anyone who contacts you either directly or via social media offering services for your family in these difficult times.   Unless you can trust them, you should not be sharing personal information related to you or your family as it may not be used in the manner you would have hoped.

    Yours sincerely

    Laleham Gap School
