Accelerated Reader

With Accelerated Reader, a student reads a book, takes an online quiz, and gets immediate feedback. Students respond to regular feedback and are motivated to make progress wit their reading skills.’ (renlearn.co.uk/accelerated/reader/)

The Accelerated Reader programme is a valuable resources in our endeavour to become a reading community – underpinned by the STAR reading assessment we use to monitor pupils’ reading levels at LGS, this motivational programme is used to encourage reading through reward.  Each book in the programme (there are thousands of titles, with more being added every year) has a book leel based on the reading accessibility of the text.  Books are categorised into interest levels and awarded a point level based on the length of the book. Children are given a book level based on the reading accessibility of the text.  Books are categorised into interest levels and awarded a point level based on the length of the book.  Children are given a book level reang (ZPD) from which to choose their books.  Once they have read their book, they log into their AR account and take a quiz.  Their scores are recorded with prizes being awarded to mark success.  Every pupil at LGS has access to AR programme, which provides up to the minute reading data. This is used to track pupils’ reading habits as well as reward success.  But we don’t keep this to ourselves; the Home Connect facility allows you to tap into your child’s reading activity at school.
