School Council
Secondary School Council at Laleham Gap, alongside Primary School Council, has an important role to play in making sure students’ voices are heard and their views considered in the school’s decision-making processes. Year 7 to Year 10, and Post-16 elect two councillors to represent them for the academic year. The Year 11 House Leaders (previously House Captains) also become members of the Council. Formal meetings are held every 2-4 weeks, chaired by Ms Schroepfer (Learning for Life Lead), and often supported by Mr Payne (Head of Wellbeing). In addition to this, some councillors have daily duties, and many are working on whole-school bids and enrichment events.
Examples of the Council’s work include: supporting with staff recruitment (being the pupil interview panel), campaigning for equipment and resources to improve the pupil experience (from play equipment to sustainable Period Products for all), introducing school reusable water bottles for all pupils to improve hydration and reduce plastic waste, featuring on local radio to celebrate their fundraising work, delivering peer workshops and a healthy tuck service at break.
