Reading at Home
Reading at home
Teaching children to read is most successful when done in partnership with our pupils’ families. If your child is on the Little Wandle (LW) programme, she will be bringing home two books, a LW Phonics book and a Reading for Pleasure book (RfP). Recognising the difference between these is really important for your child’s reading experience. The LW book will contain just the words your child can decode with confidence by herself and is for her to read to you. The purpose of this is to give her the chance to show off her new reading skills; being able to share these with you will help to create an immense sense of pride in herself as a reader. The RfP book, on the other hand, is for you to read to her, exploring the pictures and ideas together. This will increase her enjoyment of books and reinforce the message that reading is fun! Motivation to read is at the heart of success.
