Language Through Colour
Language through Colour is an LGS approach that provides an important bridge between quality classroom talk, whole school focus on vocabulary and academic text. Developed by Speech and Language Therapists, this approach uses a simple colour-coded system to categorise word types and is super-effective in helping pupils to process information; this in turn helps them to develop the skills and confidence needed to make sense of what they are reading – to become fluent readers. This approach is especially helpful for pupils who experience difficulties with their short-term working memory as it helps them to comprehend meaning more quickly, thus helping to increase fluency. Supporting pupils to understand what they read is the responsibility of us all.
