All training courses and workshops are delivered by a team of skilled and experienced Specialist Teachers and education professionals at our purpose-built training facility at Laleham Gap or bespoke in your school or setting and are accompanied by high quality resources.

We also have a number of pre-recorded webinars for Schools' and Settings' use - scroll down to view the options available.  We can also deliver bespoke, on-site training sessions covering any of the workshops in our brochure or work with you to design something unique for your school or setting.  Contact us at tiss@lgs.kent.sch.uk

What's New at TISS?!

We're proud to announce that Jade Saunders has completed her Makaton Tutor Training and we will be offering Makaton training to schools and settings from September 2024:

Makaton Taster Sessions

These free-to-attend workshops held in terms: one, three and four, will give delegates the foundations of Makaton and how it can be used to enhance communication within your school or setting.  The workshops are also a great introduction to Makaton and foundation should you wish to progress to Makaton Level One and Two.

Makaton Level One

The Level One Makaton Workshop is for those who are interested in learning about the first steps of Makaton and those wishing to progress to Level Two in the future.

This workshop will include how to start using Makaton in everyday situations such as: immediate needs, home, familiar people, food, events, activities and objects.

Makaton Level Two

The Level Two workshop will help delegates understand how to apply the Makaton Language Programme and will build on learning achieved at Level One with the inclusion of: people, food, activities, objects and events.

New vocabulary will also be introduced which will be ideal for the school/setting and workplace environments.

Family Thrive Workshops

TISS are pleased to offer Family Thrive Workshops for schools' parent/carer community, led by a Licensed Family Thrive Leader alongside a member of the host school's staff.  These workshops will introduce the fundamentals of the Thrive approach and share how Thrive is integrated into your school.

These weekly workshops (running for six weeks) include:

  • how our brains develop in the early years of life
  • why play and creativity are so important
  • sharing ways to support children at times of change and difficulty
  • how to be a 'behaviour detective'
  • explain the Thrive ethos in your school

Each workshop has a key focus, including activities and time for discussion.  They are an excellent way to connect with families and strengthen home/school relationships; the Family Thrive programme has received excellent feedback from schools and families that have participated.

Many schools include Family Thrive as part of their initial offer when children first start school, either EYFS, Year Three or Year Seven - Family Thrive can also be offered to more bespoke groups at any time of year.

Schools interested in booking a Family Thrive course or those wishing to find out more should contact Liz Goodwin, TISS Wellbeing at liz.goodwin@lgs.kent.sch.uk
