Welcome to Quartz Class' page! Your teacher this year is Miss Carey. On this page, you'll be able to read your class newsletters and find out about what you will be learning this year.
Quartz Class offers a sensory-led, relationship-focused, personalised curriculum for pupils who benefit from individualised learning experience. Every child’s learning is shaped by their provision plan outcomes, ensuring teaching is meaningful, relevant, and directly connected to what they need to make progress.
We follow a multi-sensory curriculum that supports engagement, communication, regulation, and independence. A higher adult-to-pupil ratio to our core offer Primary class allows staff to provide calm, attuned, responsive support throughout the day. Approaches such as Intensive Interaction help develop early communication and connection, while specialist input from SALT, OT, and Educational Psychology is woven into everyday learning.
Although highly personalised, our curriculum remains aligned with the National Curriculum, Engagement Steps, and Primary Steps to ensure progress is monitored and celebrated.

Dear Parents and Carers,
We are incredibly excited to begin this new journey together and to welcome your children into their new classroom environment. Quartz has been carefully designed around the needs of our pupils, with a strong focus on communication, sensory regulation, independence and emotional wellbeing. We are very fortunate to have access to a range of highly personalised learning spaces, including our own sensory room and soft play area which will help us create a calm, predictable and engaging environment for every child.
As we settle into the new school year, our initial focus will be on building positive relationships, establishing routines and helping every child feel safe, happy and confident in their new class and the transitions around this.
This term's Quartz topic is "Ourselves".
We will be exploring our senses, family, sense of self. Personal care, independence skills and making choices.
We will also enjoy sensory stories, creative art activities, music, cooking, movement sessions and lots of opportunities to learn about ourselves and our friends, relating this to each students’ provision plan targets and making it relevant to them.
This term, the whole Primary Department will also be exploring Europe.
Throughout the term, Quartz pupils will discover different European countries through sensory exploration, stories, music, food tasting, art, movement and cultural experiences. Activities will be carefully adapted to suit each child's communication and developmental stage, ensuring that learning is meaningful, engaging and accessible for everyone.
We know that starting a new class can feel like a big change for both children and families. Please be reassured that building strong relationships, understanding each child's individual needs and creating a sense of belonging will be our priority throughout the first term. On the next pages, we have included some further key information, including the weekly timetable, important dates PE days and a bit more about Quartz Class curriculum.
Just a little reminder to name all the children’s clothing and belongings, including packed lunches, water bottles and snacks as this helps us to reunite it quickly and reduces anxiety when items are misplaced.
Please continue to use Class Dojo as the main form of communication between home and school. We will use Dojo regularly to share achievements, celebrate successes and keep you updated on your child's learning journey. We are looking forward to getting to know your child, celebrating their achievements and sharing their successes with you throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued support!

Please can the children come into school in their PE kits on a Tuesday. We will also have PE on a Thursday but this will be a more gentle session focussing on skill and will not require children to wear PE kit.
The Quartz curriculum is built around two important parts of the day:
Alongside these sessions, children will take part in daily Sensory Circuits, communication opportunities and structured personal-care activities to support independence and self-care skills.
RISE Time provides structured, sensory-based learning experiences linked to our learning, designed to develop engagement, communication, problem-solving, movement and early learning skills. Through music, movement, sensory exploration and interactive activities, children are encouraged to learn through play and exploration.
The aim is to meet children where they are, celebrate communication in all forms and build trusting relationships that support learning.
Here is what we aim our timetable to look like but this may be subject to change dependent on other interventions or available spaces:
