    Focus:  Macbeth

    This classic Shakespearean tale is used to enthuse readers into the timeless themes of ambition and power.  Throughout this unit lessons will be contrasted with preparation for Functional Skills.

    During this unit the students will study one of the GCSE Literature texts to focus on using reading to broaden understanding of key themes.  The texts will also be used as a platform to develop key exam skills, both for Functional Skills and GCSE Language

     Students will work through a series of themed extracts which are selected to support the understanding of GCSE papers.  There will be a range of 19th, 20th and 21st century texts as well as fiction and non-fiction.  During these terms the students will begin to practise the key assessment objectives for GCSE Language.

    Focus:

    The importance of meal planning

    The students focus on learning how to plan a meal based on the main sections of the Eat Well Guide, they will learn what ingredients go on each section and the main nutrients, they will also learn about food labelling freshness, bacteria prevention, budgeting when shopping and identifying free range and organic products. The pupils will also take part in weekly practical lessons that fit the subject and encourage independence.

    Focus: the importance of carbohydrates dietary fibre and fats.

    As well as weekly practical lessons that fit in with the subject the students will learn Food storage and safe food temperatures, how to prevent food poisoning, identifying small and large pieces of kitchen equipment at their uses. Identifying where our ingredients come from, identifying religious and cultural diets and traditions

    Focus: Understanding the importance of vitamins and minerals in our diets.

    The students will continue to take part in practical lessons to help improve skills and independence and will also learn how to Identify food trends, micronutrients and macronutrients. Identifying how to prevent iron deficiency. Food pricing.

    For this part of the students course they will be completing coursework where they will plan prepare and cook a main course meal set to a subject.

    Students will be given their design brief from their clients The Welcome Collection commissioning them to design and make a range of products based on microscopic and cellular imagery.

     

    Students will produce a range of outcomes based on their research.  They will be introduced to a variety of media and different 2D and 3D techniques and processes which will lead to specific outcomes (e.g enamelled and cast pieces, silk painting / textiles, ceramics,  glass fused products

    Students will be given their design brief from their clients Howletts Zoo commissioning them to design and make a range of products for them.

    Students use sketchbooks to record their observations, ideas, feelings and insights.  They work in a range of sizes and use a selection of media, techniques and materials

     

    Students are introduced to critical and contextual material in order to develop an understanding of the range of techniques used in historical and contemporary art and design.

    Students will produce a variety of outcomes based on their research.  They will be introduced to a range of media and different 2D and 3D techniques and processes which will lead to specific outcomes (lino prints,  etched acrylic lamp using).

    They will be supported through the preparation and the development of their ideas, experimenting with a range of media and materials, refining and developing their work as it progresses.     • Don't Cut Off Pupils explore the rules taking photographs and identifying the rules in sketch books

      Understanding what not to do

      Can a photograph be wrong? Look at examples of bad photographs. What is ‘wrong’ about them?  Create deliberately ‘wrong’ photographs and explore the ‘rules’ of photography. What do students already know (or think they know) about photography?
