Dear Parents/ carers, We would love to take this opportunity to formally welcome you all to a new school year in Opal Class! We are really looking forward to working with and getting to know/continuing to support your children.
Our topic for Term 1 is ‘Do you want to be friends?’. This term, we will support the children to develop new friendships within the class and support them with their EHCP targets through carefully planned, engaging activities. During group time, we will learn who is in our class and begin to recognise names.
To learn about the adults who help us in school, we will take a walk around our school to find out about the adults who work there. Back in the classroom, we’ll explore objects linked to each person’s job and think about how they help us.
Together, we’ll explore friendship and begin to share the things we like with others. Through matching activities, we’ll explore the concepts of same and different, linking this to how we are the same and how we are different from our friends. Then we will draw around ourselves, comparing our height, the size of our hands and our feet.
| I like | yes | share | help |
| I don't like | no | my turn | bigger |
| same | more | your turn | smaller |

Please can pupils come in wearing their P.E kits on Fridays. For safety, we ask that earrings are removed before school and long hair is tied back. We also do daily physical activities in our outdoor area and sensory circuits as and when individual pupils require this.
Please let us know if you would like any support to do sensory circuits at home as we know it can help our pupils with their focus and regulation. Just a little reminder to name all the children’s clothing and belongings, this helps us to reunite it quickly and reduces anxiety when items are misplaced.
The children are welcome to bring in a small healthy snack for break, for example a piece of fruit/vegetable or crackers. Please do not hesitate to use the Class Dojo app to communicate with us.
