    Learning to read in school

We have chosen to follow Little Wandle, a government-accredited systematic synthetic phonics programme that we feel best suits the needs of our pupils.  Teaching phonics begins immediately; children work through the programme until they become automatic and fluent readers.  Its structured framework allows us to deliver the bespoke teaching our pupils require to meet their individual learning need. For children to enjoy learning to read, they need to feel secure in the process.  Story-telling and story-sharing plays an enormous part in learning to read; by immersing children in rich classroom talk, encouraging them to share their thoughts and ideas, we welcome them into the wonderful world of reading.
